One year after the earthquakes in Türkiye and Syria: A case study on the role of business in the humanitarian response
One year ago today, the first earthquake that devastated Türkiye and Syria took place.
To mark this date, CBI has been working with partners to put together a Case Study “Türkiye earthquakes 2023: Lessons learned on business engagement in the humanitarian response”.
While the case study focuses primarily on the humanitarian response, it is important to highlight that a better response paves the way for a swifter and more effective recovery. This came through in our Lessons Learned workshop.
We also wanted to share that today’s episode of the Inside Geneva podcast by SwissInfo “Humanitarian and business alliances in disaster response” features a conversation with Erhan Arslan, Deputy Secretary General for Project Development and Coordination for the Turkish Enterprise and Business Confederation (TÜRKONFED), a CBI Member Network, and Florian Rhiza Nery, Deputy Programme Coordinator for CBi.
The recovery from the earthquakes will take time, but reflecting on what went well and what could have been done differently as part of the immediate humanitarian response – and how this might better engage the private sector – is essential for us all to improve how we work together to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters.
