Turning crises into opportunities to create a better life for affected people and communities.

RISK PROFILE

Few countries live as close to nature’s extremes as Chile. Stretched along the Pacific Ring of Fire, it ranks among the most exposed nations on the planet to earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions — and a warming climate is adding new pressure, straining fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture and livestock while fuelling the intense wildfires seen across the country in recent years. On top of this, El Niño conditions took hold in the Pacific in mid-2026 and are expected to strengthen into 2027, a shift that tends to bring heavier rains and flooding to central Chile and disrupt its coastal fisheries

Chile is highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change through their effect on sectors such as fisheries, aquaculture, forestry, agriculture and livestock. Over the past few years, the country has also been affected by intense wildfires affecting various regions.

Desafío Levantemos Chile is a non-profit organization, offering private and sustainable solutions to public issues. Their mission is to turn crises into opportunities to create a better life for affected people and communities. The organization engages in emergency response, carrying out needs assessments to understand what families need to get back on their feet. However, their goal is not just to rebuild, but to rebuild better, making sure that as many of those affected by crises as possible end up with a better setup than they had before.

Desafío prides itself in being efficient, transparent, and offering well-rounded and sustainable solutions. The areas they operate in include emergency response, education, health, entrepreneurship, and social development.

Working with a mix of partners, strategic alliances, collaborations, and media partnerships, Desafío harnesses individual and corporate support to carry out their lifesaving work.

Desafío became a CBI Member Network in October 2024, and the partnership will focus on strengthening regional and global partnerships and peer-to-peer learning.

Interviews of Key Partners

During the Humanitarian Networks and Partnerships Weeks (HNPW) 2025 that took place in Geneva, Switzerland, and the end of March, we did mini interviews of key partners. Here, Askaan Wohlt, Director of Emergency Response from Desafío Levantemos Chile shares how they mobilize and are part of first responders, and use that to pave the way for early recovery.
